Applied Kinesiology Applied Kinesiology has been a part of holistic healthcare for decades. The technique was devised in the 1970’s by Dr. George Goodheart. Goodheart discovered that muscles became momentarily weak when exposed to negative stimuli.
One common form of applied kinesiology requires two people, one, the subject, extends one arm out to the side, holding or not a substance (drug or herb) and the other, the doctor, pushes down on the arm while the subject is resisting. If the arm can resist, the test or the substance tested is beneficial. If it is harmful or a source of problem in the body, the arm will weaken and the doctor can easily push it down. Applied kinesiology is a technique where the Doctor of Chiropractic can determine structural imbalance, distortion or subluxation in the human body for the purpose of removing nerve interference and the effects thereof. Back to top Applied Neurology Neurology refers to the brain, spinal cord, and all related nerves. Applied neurology is a chiropractic methodology by which the function of each area of the brain is assessed. Based on the findings, corrections are made through the use of color, sound, tactile sensation, movement, smell, and/or taste. Ultimately, the entire system is enhanced and function is restored. Back to top Craniosacral Therapy Craniosacral therapy was first developed by Dr. William Sutherland. Dr. Sutherland, contrary o popular belief, realized that cranial sutures were, in fact, designed to express small degrees or motion. He concluded that this motion is essentially produced by the body’s inherent life force, which he referred to as “Breath of Life”. This motion is closely connected to subtle movements that involve a network of interrelated tissues and fluids at the core of the body; including cerebrospinal fluid (the “sap in the tree”), the central nervous system, the membranes that surround the central nervous system and the sacrum. The emphasis in craniosacral therapy is to help resolve the trapped forces that underlie and govern patterns of disease and fragmentation in both body and mind. This involves the Chiropractor “listening through the hands” to the body’s subtle rhythms and patterns of congestion. The intention of the treatment is to enhance the body’s own self-healing and self-regulating capabilities. This is done in a non-invasive way as the Chiropractor gently puts his/her hands on the cranium bones and the sacrum. It is an effective form of treatment for a wide range of conditions, helping to create the optimal condition for health and well-being. It is suitable for people of all ages and especially for newborn, infants and children. Back to top Eyelights Eyelights work by stimulating the weaker hemisphere of the brain, allowing it to become stronger, thus improving overall performance. Anyone wishing to increase their mental capabilities, physical abilities, or motor function can wear eyelights. What do the lobes of the brain do? The parietal lobe deals with sensory inputs and motor outputs. Patients with motor problems such as Parkinson’s disease, tremors, MS, ALS, stability problems, numbness, or atrophy would use the inferior row of lights blinking brighter. Patients with problems related to the temporal lobe such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, memory problems, speech and hearing problems, learning difficulties, forgetfulness, dementia, cloudy thought processes, depression, etc., would use the superior row of lights blinking brighter. Eyelights provide a natural alternative for learning disabilities in children as well as improve the symptoms of certain neurological conditions. Back to top Magnetic Therapy Magnetic therapy is safe, non-invasive method of applying magnetic fields to the body for therapeutic purposes. It accelerates the natural healing process, provides natural pain relief, arthritis pain relief and improves circulation and sleep without any adverse side effects. Back to top Myofascial Release Myofascial Release is a very effective technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The fascia is a specialized system of the body that has the appearance similar to a spider’s web or a sweater. It is very densely woven, covering and penetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein as well as our internal organs and spinal cord. It is actually one structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. So each part of the body is connected to the other like the yarn in a sweater. In a normal, healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration. It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When we experience physical trauma, scaring, inflammation or, of course, subluxations, it becomes tight, restricted and a source of tension to the rest of the body. This influences the comfort and functioning of our body producing pain, restricted motion, and decreasing our ability to withstand stress and strain. Back to top Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) The word neuro refers to an understanding of the brain and its functioning. Linguistic relates to the verbal and non-verbal aspects of our information processing. Programming is the behavioral and thinking pattern we all go through. There is a relationship between perceptions, thinking and behavior that is neuro-linguistic in nature. The relationship is operating all the time, no matter what we are doing, and it can be studied by exploring our internal or subjective experience. The formal definition of Neuro-Linguistic Programming is: the study of the structure of subjective experience. Back to top Neuromuscular Re-Education N.M.R. is a therapeutic technique used to improve balance, coordination, posture, kinesthetic sense and proprioception. When an area is injured (whether it is a muscle, connective tissue, fascia, tendon or some combination of these) scar tissue, know as adhesions, is formed. The objective of N.M.R. is to break the adhesions of the scar tissue to reduce pain and restore full range of motion. Back to top Parasympathetic balancing Due to ongoing stress in everyday life, most people are stuck in a sympathetic state also known as a fight or flight response. This state puts stress on the entire body preparing it for an emergency and preventing it from activating the healing mechanisms. The parasympathetic nervous system balances the body allowing it to heal properly. Back to top Percussor The percussor works with the fascia of the body at a very deep, penetrating level that has long lasting dimensions. We found that fascial restrictions and scar tissue underlie many persistent, chronic pain syndromes. The smooth force of this percussive action allows one to free both the superficial connective tissue and deep fascia. The percussor creates a strong smooth force to stimulate the release of the fascia through biomechanical and bioelectric unwinding. This king of release allows the fluids and electrical properties of tissues and organs to flow normally again, creating motion and life, restoring healthy equilibrium. The percussor can be used to correct TMJ problems, ileocecal valve issues, release spastic bowel, etc. Back to top Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (P.N.F) P.N.F is a more advance form of flexibility training that involves both the stretching and contraction of the muscle group being targeted. It is also excellent for targeting specific muscle groups increasing flexibility, range of motion, and improving muscular strength. Back to top Red Light Therapy Medical research is now showing that light frequencies can help stimulate the healing mechanisms within the body. Each cell in the human body vibrates at a certain frequency. If it is not vibrating at that frequency it cannot function properly. Pollutants, infections, and stress have the ability to alter the level at which a cell vibrates slowing down the repair mechanisms. Through the use of red light therapy the frequencies of cells can be restored, thus restoring proper energy and function to the cells. The Red 635nm Erchonia light:
• Increases energy • Has an anti-inflammatory effect • Helps with pain reduction • Improves wound healing • Reduces pain and muscle spasm thru increasing strength and range of motion • Enhances microcirculation of blood and lymph • Balances cell-to-cell communication as the body speaks in 635nm language. Back to top Red-Violet Laser The Red-Violet laser is a therapeutic modality which enhances the healing process. The violet laser stimulates or speeds up the symphatetic part of the autonomic nervous system. The red part of the laser is more of a modulator, raising the energy level if low, and lowering the energy if too high. The red laser stimulates (or slow down) the parasymphatetic part of the autonomis nervous system. When used together we note greater improvement at a faster rate than most other technique used. The violet laser unlocks the door to the discovery of hidden conditions that will appear when the body is under stress. Thus the violet part of the laser can also be used in the evaluation of the patient’s condition. Back to top |
